This article explains what the Post Widget is, how to add and manage it on a page, and best practices for using it to increase the visibility of important channel posts across your intranet.

What is the Post Widget?

The Post Widget lets you surface a specific channel post on a page—no scrolling or hunting required. It’s ideal for spotlighting updates that people must see (e.g. policy changes, leadership notes, and launch announcements).

For guidance on adding widgets to your page, please see this article

Use cases

  • Highlight strategic updates: Place a leadership announcement or quarterly objective update at the top of a Department or All-Company page to ensure it’s seen alongside other key resources.
  • Support campaigns and initiatives: Feature the central post from a channel (e.g., a Diversity & Inclusion campaign, or a new wellbeing program) on the HR or Culture page to keep momentum visible and accessible.
  • Onboarding & learning hubs: Surface a “Welcome post” or training update directly on the Onboarding page, so new hires can see important posts in context with other onboarding materials.
  • Policy and compliance visibility: Pin a post about a new data privacy requirement or travel policy on the Compliance page to make sure employees don’t miss regulatory updates.
  • Department dashboards: Add team announcements (like a sprint retrospective or marketing launch summary) to a department’s page, giving team members a quick glance at what’s current without digging through multiple channels.
  • Event or milestone tracking: Show a post celebrating a company anniversary right on the Events or Culture page, increasing visibility beyond the original channel.

Best practices for using the Post Widget

To maximize the value of the Post Widget, think about how it fits into your organization’s intranet strategy—not just the page design:

  • Prioritize visibility for critical updates: Use the Post Widget to surface updates that employees must see—such as leadership communications, compliance changes, or time-sensitive announcements, reducing the chance of missed information.
  • Place posts in context: Add posts to pages where employees naturally go for related information. For example, surface onboarding posts on the Onboarding page, or HR policy updates on the Compliance page. This way, employees can connect updates directly with supporting resources, improving knowledge retention.
  • Balance permanence and timeliness: Posts highlighted on pages shouldn’t feel stale. If a campaign, event, or policy update is no longer relevant, replace or remove the Post Widget to avoid confusing employees with outdated information.
  • Leverage widget headers for clarity: Adding a clear widget header (e.g., “CEO’s Quarterly Update” or “New Travel Policy”) helps employees instantly understand the context of the embedded post, especially if they land on the page for the first time.
  • Mind channel permissions before sharing: Remember that a post inherits its channel permissions. If you want all employees to see an update, make sure it comes from a channel that everyone can access. This avoids empty widgets for users without channel rights and prevents unnecessary support requests.
  • Don’t overload a page with multiple Post Widgets: Each Post Widget is designed to highlight one post. Adding too many can overwhelm readers and dilute the importance of the updates. Instead, choose one or two key posts per page that truly matter.
  • Review content regularly: Schedule periodic reviews of Post Widgets across key pages to ensure they continue to feature the most relevant updates. Treat them like noticeboards: valuable only when the information is current.

How to add a post to the widget

  1. Add the Post Widget to a section on your page. Learn more.
  2. Click Add post in the widget.
  3. Paste either the post URL or the post ID into the input field.
    • Where to find a post URL: Go to the Channel containing the post → click the three dots on the post → View post → copy the URL from your browser.
      • Example: https://app.happeo.com/channels/12345678/OfficeNews/discussion/87654321
    • Where to find a post ID: Open View post as above; the post ID is the trailing number in the URL.
      • Example: From the URL above, the post ID is 87654321.
  4. Click Add post. The post renders immediately in the Post Widget, reflecting the original post’s permissions and live updates (so you don’t maintain content twice).

Once published, the post appears on the page, where users can click to expand it and view the full discussion, including comments.

How to manage the Post Widget

  1. Open the Page group where the widget resides.
  2. Click the pencil icon (top‑right) to enter the editor.
  3. Hover over the widget until it’s highlighted in blue, then click it.
  4. Click the settings (gear) icon.
  5. In the settings window, switch between Configure and Styles to control what’s displayed and how it looks. This helps you balance prominence (for critical updates) with visual consistency across your brand.

Configure

  • Replace with another post: Swap the embedded post using the same URL/ID method.
  • Widget header: Toggle a header on/off and enter a concise, descriptive title (e.g., “Quarterly Results Update”) to set context for readers who land directly on the Page.

Style

If Brand Style Locking is not enabled for the selected Brand Style, you can adjust the options below. When Brand Locking is on, styles are centrally governed to maintain consistency across your intranet.

  • Background color: Choose the section background color available in your Brand Style. Use a subtle contrast to draw attention without overpowering the content.
  • Padding: Set overall spacing (0–100px) to control how much background shows. More padding adds breathing room around the post; less padding makes the content feel denser.
  • Custom padding: For precise control, enter a value for all sides or unlock the sides to set different values for top, right, bottom, and left.
  • Border: Add a border around the widget and adjust width, sides, and color.
  • Shadow: Enable a shadow effect (small, medium, large) to lift the widget off the page slightly.
  • Round corners: Adjust corner radius (0–100px). Higher values create a softer card feel; lower values keep a sharper, editorial style.

FAQ

Adding posts

Can I add more than one post to a single Post Widget?

No, each Post Widget is designed to display one post at a time. If you want to highlight multiple posts, you can add multiple Post Widgets to your page.

Can I add posts from private Channels?

Yes, but only users who have access to that channel will be able to see the post in the widget. Users without permission will see an empty widget space. Therefore, we recommend that you share posts from channels that all page editors and viewers have access to.

What happens if the original post is deleted?

If the original post is removed from the channel, it will no longer display in the Post Widget on your page. Instead, an error message will appear stating that we couldn’t find the post you were looking for.

Permissions & visibility

Who can add or manage a Post Widget?

Only users with page editing rights can add or configure the Post Widget. Viewers of the page will simply see the post displayed.

Do users need special permissions to interact with the post in the widget?

Yes. To view a post in the Post Widget, a user must already have viewing or editing access to the channel where the post resides. If they have access, they’ll be able to see the post in the widget and can interact with it (e.g., comment, like, or expand it), just as they would in the channel itself. Users without channel access will not see the post in the widget.

Troubleshooting

The widget is empty—why can’t I see the post?

If the Post Widget appears blank, it means the post comes from a channel you don’t have access to. To view the content, you’ll need to request access from the channel owner or editors, or contact your intranet admin. Once you’ve been granted the right permissions, the post will display normally in the widget.

I pasted a post URL, but nothing appears. What should I do?

Double-check that you copied the full URL, including the post ID at the end. You can confirm by opening the post in the channel, selecting View post, and then copying the link from your browser’s address bar.

Why can’t I comment on the post in the widget?

If you don’t see the option to comment, it’s likely because you don’t have permission to in that channel.

The post disappeared from my widget—what happened?

If the original post was deleted from the channel, it can no longer display in the widget. You’ll need to replace it with another post.

The widget design options are locked. Is this a bug?

Not a bug—this means Brand Style Locking is enabled for your organization. Styling is managed centrally by admins to keep the intranet consistent with brand guidelines.
