What is Brand Style Locking?

Brand Style Locking is a setting that can be applied to a Brand Style by admins or users with branding permissions. When enabled, it enforces the visual settings such as colors, typography, padding, shadows, and borders across all elements like Widgets, Sections, Hero, and Navigation. This prevents page editors from making in-editor style changes, helping maintain visual consistency throughout your Pages.

For example: You create a Brand Style that sets a light grey background for all Sections. If the Brand Style is unlocked, page editors can change the background color to another option within the Brand Style palette by opening the Section’s settings (via the ⚙️icon) and accessing the Styles tab. However, if the Brand Style is locked, the Styles tab is greyed out and cannot be opened – preventing any changes. This applies to all elements defined by the Brand Style – including Widgets, Hero headers, Sections, and Navigation.

Future enhancements: Brand Style Locking will offer even more flexibility. Admins will be able to define pre-approved variations for locked styles – and determine which part of Brand Styles should be locked – giving editors a controlled set of brand-compliant options to choose from while still maintaining strict brand control.

FAQ

Getting started with Brand Style Locking

Who can lock or unlock a Brand Style?

Only admins and users with the branding permission can apply or remove the brand locking toggle from the Admins Settings > Branding > Pages 2.0.

Can I lock specific elements within a Brand Style while leaving others flexible?

In this initial version of Brand Style Locking, you can only lock or unlock an entire Brand Style's settings. This means you can't, for example, lock Widgets but keep Sections flexible. We plan to introduce more granular control in future updates.

What happens if I lock the default Brand Style?

All pages created from scratch or from a template will inherit the default Brand Style, and the style settings – such as colors, padding, and borders – won’t be adjustable in the editor, ensuring maximum consistency across all new pages.

Understanding locked Brand Styles

How can I check if a Brand Style is locked?

In the Pages 2.0 editor, you’ll see that a Brand Style is locked when the Styles menu for any element – like a Section, Widget, Hero header, or Navigation – is greyed out and uneditable. This appears when clicking the element’s settings (gear icon), signaling that style changes are restricted.

Admins and users with Brand Manager permissions can also check the status by going to the Branding section in the Admin Panel, selecting Pages 2.0, and clicking into the Brand Style in question to see whether the ‘lock brading’ toggle is switched on.

Can certain users override a locked Brand Style from within the editor to make adjustments?

No – once a Brand Style is locked, styling is restricted for all users, including page owners, editors, admins, and brand managers. To make changes, the Brand Style must be unlocked.

Locking & unlocking Brand Styles in use

What happens if I lock a Brand Style already in use?

Once a Brand Style is locked, styling options for Sections, Widgets, Hero, and Navigation will be restricted across all pages using it – regardless of whether those elements were added or adjusted before the lock. To make style changes, you’ll need to unlock the Brand Style or switch to a different, unlocked Brand Style.

What happens if I unlock a Brand Style already in use?

The Style tab will be re-enabled – allowing you to optionally adjust colors, padding, and other styling options across Sections, Widgets, Hero, and Navigation within the limits of the now-unlocked Brand Style.

Scope & limitations of Brand Style Locking

Can Brand Style Locking be applied to specific pages rather than an entire page group?

Brand locking operates at the page group level. Since a brand style is applied across all pages within a page group, brand locking enforces that style uniformly. Therefore, it cannot be applied to individual pages.
