1. Overview

Page metadata in Pages 2.0 gives you a quick snapshot of a page's current status: when it was last updated, who made the change, and any hashtags that have been added to it. You can access it both from the published page and from within the page editor, so whether you're reading content or actively working on it, the context you need is always close at hand.

2. Use cases

  • Verify content is current before acting on it: Before referencing a policy, process, or any other page in a decision or sharing it with a colleague, the metadata lets you check at a glance when it was last published and by whom. If the page was recently updated by the team responsible for it, you can proceed with confidence that the information reflects the latest version.
  • Understand a page's context before diving in: Hashtags in the metadata signal the topics and themes a page covers. Browsing them is a quick way to understand where a page sits in the broader information structure, particularly when you have arrived at it through search and want to make sure it is the right one.

3. Before you begin

  • You must have view, edit, or owner access to the page to access its metadata from the published view.
  • To access metadata from the page editor, you must have edit or owner access.

4. How to view page metadata

From a published page

  1. Navigate to the page you want to inspect.
  2. Click the i icon in the top-right corner of the page.

The metadata panel will open and display:

  • Last updated: The date and time of the most recent published update (e.g. Monday, 1 June 2026, 11:00), a relative indicator of how long ago that was (e.g. 3 days ago), and the name of the user who made the change.
  • Hashtags: Any hashtags associated with the page, if any have been added.

To dismiss the panel, click anywhere else on the page.

In the page editor

  1. Open the page in the page editor.
  2. Hover over the page name.

A tooltip will appear showing:

  • Draft: The date and time the draft was last saved (e.g. Last updated 1 June 2026 at 11:00 EEST).
  • Published: The date and time the page was last published (e.g. Last updated 1 June 2026 at 9:00 EEST).
  • Published by: The name of the user who last published the page.

5. Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the metadata from this panel?

No. Both panels are read-only. The last updated information is recorded automatically each time the page is saved or published. To add or edit hashtags, open the page editor, click the cog icon at the top-left to open the page settings, and update the tags under Add tag. Only page owners and editors can manage hashtags.

What counts as an "update" for the last updated timestamp?

It depends on where you are viewing the metadata. The metadata panel on the published page reflects published changes only, so the timestamp updates each time the page is published. The metadata in the page editor tracks both draft saves and published updates separately, showing the most recent activity for each.

What if a page has no hashtags?

The hashtags section in the metadata panel will be empty, indicating that none have been added yet.
